3.   EDITING AND PROOF READING- The Author’s Blueprint: Mastering the Craft of Writing Your First Book

Publishing a book is responsibility. Once you finish the draft of the book, you need to do a quality check. At least, all the mistakes should be corrected and amended. Also, texts need to be improved and upgraded wherever applicable.

Proof reading is a major way to correct and amend the book. It is recommended that proof reading and amendment is done by professionals who are already in the filed and are experienced. Some publishing companies set up an editing panel to proof read and edit the book.

Below are the benefits of editing and proofreading:

•      It finds out the mistakes and errors

•      It helps getting second opinion of what the author has written.

•      It gives the opportunity to amend and upgrade his style of writing

•      It corrects and improves the mistakes in spelling, grammar and punctuation marks

•      It gives chance to rephrase the sentences and paragraph in such a way that passes the message easily.

•      It also gives opportunity to support the idea by adding images, graphs and links.

Keep in mind, the proof reading is the last stage of editing. In the editing, first the author needs to look at overall elements of the book like structure, style, language etc.

Next, he checks each chapters and sub titles to make sure that they are in order and right sequence. Also it helps to reduce or increase the number of chapters and titles to suit the audience.

Next, he looks for any mistakes in grammar, punctuation mark or spelling. Finally tries to identify any minor error and mistakes, which is called proof reading.
