  • Nearly the break of dawn on Monday, 12th of Rabeeul Awwal, equivalent to 20 April 571 AD, the Prophet ﷺ was born in the house of Abu Talib in Makah[1]. Some Hadith books reported that the light was shined from the birthplace that enlightened the palaces of Sham[2].
  • At first, the mother Aminah breastfed the newborn, then Thuwaibah[3] took care of feeding for a while. After that, he was sent to famous and noble wet-nurse Halimah t. Arabs living in towns usually were sending their children to wet nurses in faraway desert areas. The purpose was to bring up them in free and healthy environments with pure language. The woman Halimahal-Sadiyah[4]  from Banu Saa’d[5] tribe was assigned to take care of the newborn Muhammad ﷺ.  After taking him, Halimah and her family were graced by continuous good fortunes. Her breasts swelled with milk, the dry grassland turned fresh and green. Her weak donkey got stronger and robust.
  • [1] There are two estimates with regard to the date of birth of Prophet Muhammad, ie April 20, (Rabi’ al-Awwal 9) 571 and  June 17, (Rabi’ al-Awwal 12) 569 Monday. The first was suggested by the Egyptian astronomer Mahmud Pasha al-Falaki (1302/1885), and the second was by the famous Muslim scholar of our time Muhammad Hamidullah (2002).(from lastprophet.info)
  • [2] Sham (الشام) is the geographic region that consists modern Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and surrounding places.
  • [3] Thuwaibah (ثوبية الأسلمية) was the slave girl of Prophet’s uncle Abu Lahab and he set her free when he was informed the glad tidings of the birth of Prophet ﷺ.
  • [4] Halima al-Sadiyah (حليمة السعدية) is famous nursing mother of the prophet.
  • [5] Banu Saa’d (بنو سعد) tribe was famous for its pure Arabic eloquence.
