In Madina

Sahabah begin to migrate to Madina:

The second Aqaba pledge paved the way for a big turning point in the history of Islam. Madina prepared to give a warm welcome to the Prophet ﷺ and his followers. After being tortured in Makah for 13  years, now Muslims see a ray of hope in the faraway city Madina.

Islam was deep-rooted in Sahabah. Now they can’t live as Muslims without migration to Madina. It was only one choice for them. Muslims began to leave Makah. The news of Muslims’ migration reached to Quraish and they felt scared that If Muslims migrated to Madina, Islam will flourish in that city. So, they tried their best to stop the migration by torturing Muslims who are leaving Makah. Some Muslims left their family and wealth in Makah and went to Madina alone while some others were forced to stay in Makah.

Abu Salamah was forced to leave his wife Ummu Salamah and son Salamah in Makah and he migrated alone. Abu Salamah’s tribe took the son from Ummu Salamah by force. She spent one year lamenting over husband and son. Finally, after one year, she managed to migrate to Madina with her only son.

Quraish accused Suhaib Al Roomi who was an early convert that he came to Makah empty-handed and after making business in Makah he became wealthy. So their decision was that he should not migrate. Even if he migrates, he should not take his wealth. So he migrated without his belongings. Later Prophet ﷺ commented on it

“رَبِحَ صُهَيْبٌ، رَبِحَ صُهَيْبٌ [1]“.

Sahabah were departing Makah secretly. Only Umar  dared to leave Makah in public. He announced:

If anyone wants his son to be orphaned or his wife to be widowed(to be killed); then let him meet me behind this valley”
