The Conquest of Khaibar
The Jews in Khaibar had made several attempts to eradicate Muslims, but all failed. After the Hudaibiya treaty, the threat of Quraish disappeared and the Prophet ﷺ turned his attention to deal with Jews and those Bedouin tribes who joined against Muslims in Khandaq battle.
Jews of Khaibar apparently assisted the tribe Gatfan against Muslims in the battle of Khandaq. In the month of Muharram Hijra 7, the Prophet ﷺ with 1400 companions marched towards Khaibar which is 80 miles away from Madina. It is reported that the hypocrites of Madina informed the Jews about Muslims’ move.
When the Prophet ﷺ arrived Khaibar[1] he said:
Allâh is Great, Khaibar shall face destruction. When we arrive in a people’s square it is a bad morning for those who have been (but have not taken heed).”
Muslims camped near their fortresses. The Prophet ﷺ changed the place of the camp according to the suggestion of Hubaab bin Mundhir. The Jews in Khaibar were living in the fortresses. There were major eight fortresses in Khaibar. Muslims managed to conquest them without major combats and fights.
Around the fort ‘Na’aem’ the famous fighting of Ali t with Mur’hab, one of the great Jew warriors took place. Muslims fought for a couple of days to conquer the fort, but they couldn’t. Finally, the Prophet ﷺ announced to Muslims:
I will give the flag to a man who loves Allâh and His Messenger and they (Allâh and His Messenger) love him”
Each one of the Muslims wished he would be entrusted with the flag. On the next day, the Prophet ﷺ asked for Ali t and he found that Ali t is suffering from the eye illness. Then the Prophet ﷺ put his saliva on his two eyes and both eyes become cured.
Ali t fought Jews with very powerful brave and killed one of their strong leaders Mur’hab.
He is reported as saying:
“I am (Ali), my mother surnamed me Al-Haider (the rugged lion).I step into the battlefield with my sword like a ferocious lion, I am the lion of jungle, solid, and hard”
