The signs of the journey towards Allah appeared in the last year of the Prophet’s life. In the last Ramadan, Jibreel read and reviewed Quran twice with him.  He clearly indicated to the closeness of his death in his Haj speech in H. 10, which is called as ‘Farwell speech’.

Farewell to Uhd and Baqee

In the month of Safar, 10 H., he went to Uhd graveyard and bid farewell to the martyrs. Also, he went to Al Baqee[1] cemetery and prayed for those who passed away and said:

“Salaam to, O abode of the believing people. What you have been promised has come to you. You are tarried till tomorrow and certainly, we shall follow you if Allah wills. O Allah, forgive the inmates of the Baqi’-al-Gharqad.”

Last days:

The beginning of the sick was in the last days of Safar, H 11. When the ill grew larger, he went to Aisha’s house and spent his last week in it. She used to recite the last two chapters of Quran (Al Alaq and An Naas)[3] and breathe to him.

Five days before his wafat[4], he felt a little recovery and went to the Mosque. He offered to compensate for any damages he might have inflicted on people.

Prophet’s last words to Sahabah:

 He said:

“He whom I have ever lashed his back, I offer him my back so that he may avenge himself on me. He whom I have ever take money from him, I offer him money so that he may take it. He whom I have ever blasphemed his honour, here I am offering my honour so that he may avenge himself. Don’t fear of hatred from me, the hatred is not of my character. He who took his due right from me is more lovable to me; (because of his revenge) I can meet Allah free of any grievance.

He continued:

[1] Al Baqee (جنة البقيع) is the vast graveyard near to the Madeenah mosque.

[2]Sahih Muslim Hadith no. 974

[3] They are Al Alaq (سورة العلق) and Al Nas (سورة الناس)

[4] Wafat (الوفاة) means death.
