Qasr Prayer (قَصْر الصلاَة)

Reducing the number of Rak’a in a Salaat is called Qasr. Four Rak’a Fard prayer (ظهْر , عَصْر and عِشَاء) is allowed to pray in Two Rak’a during long travel (سَفرٌ طَوِيل). Two مَرْحَلَة is considered as long travel. Two Marhala is equivalent to approximately one hundred and thirty-two (132) KM. If the distance is three Marhala (equivalent to 198 KM), then Qasr prayer is better than normal full prayer.

Only after passing the border of the place he stays, he can start making Qasr.

Conditions of Qasr

  1. Intention of Qasr while saying Takbeeratul Ihram.
  2. Not following (اقْتِدَاء) an Imam who is praying full (مُتِمّ).
  3. Not having anything that opposes the intention of Qasr. For example, it is not allowed to take the long way and leave the short way with the intention of making Qasr.
  4. To be in travel throughout Salaat.

The travel is considered as ended if the traveler decided to stay in a place for complete four days or indefinite days. But if one is not sure about the number of the days he stays in the place, he is allowed to make Qasr up to eighteen days.

Jam’a prayer/ جَمْعُ الصلاَة

Praying Jam’a means to pray two Salaat together. It is allowed to pray together Dhuhr and Asr or Maghrib and Isha.

Jam’a has two categories; Jam’a Takdeem (جَمع التقْدِيم) and Jam’a Ta’keer (جَمع التأْخير). The first category means praying Asr in Dhuhr prayer time or praying Isha in Maghrib praying time. The second category is to pray Dhuhr in Asr time or pray Maghrib in Isha time.

Conditions for Jam’a Takdeem

There are five conditions for Jam’a Takdeem:

  1. Niyyat of Jam’a in the first prayer.
  2. Praying two Salaat in their original order (Tarteeb/الترْتِيب).
  3. Praying them consecutively (Wala/الوَلاَء).
  4. Beginning the second Salaat before the end of travel.
  5. The validity of the first prayer in his view.

Conditions for Jam’a Ta’keer

There are two conditions for Jam’a Ta’keer

  1. Niyyat of Jam’a during the time of the first prayer.
  2. To be in travel till the end of the second prayer.

Tarteeb and Wala are Sunnah in Jam’a Ta’keer.

In addition to the travel, there are some other reasons for Jam’a such as the rain and the sickness with some certain conditions.
