Dua (praying/supplicating to Allah) is Sunnah after Salaat. One can ask Allah whatever he wants. But it is preferred to pray with same sentences of Dua mentioned in Quran and Hadith. Below is a sample of such Dua.
الحَمْدُ للّهِ رَبِّ العَالَمِين، اللهمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وعَلَى آلِ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمّد، | All praise to Allah, the Lord of the world. Oh Allah, send blessing upon our leader Muhammad ﷺ and upon his family. |
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ فِعْلَ الْخَيْرَاتِ وَتَرْكَ الْمُنْكَرَاتِ وَحُبَّ الْمَسَاكِينِ وَإِذَا أَرَدْتَ فِي النَّاسِ فِتْنَةً فَاقْبِضْنِي إِلَيْكَ غَيْرَ مَفْتُونٍ | O Allah, I ask You for good actions and for leaving what is disapproved of and for love of the poor. And if You wish to try people, then bring me to You without being tried.” (Muwatta) |
اَللَّهُمَّ أَصْلِحْ لِي دِينِي اَلَّذِي هُوَ عِصْمَةُ أَمْرِي, وَأَصْلِحْ لِي دُنْيَايَ اَلَّتِي فِيهَا مَعَاشِي, وَأَصْلِحْ لِي آخِرَتِي اَلَّتِي إِلَيْهَا مَعَادِي, وَاجْعَلْ اَلْحَيَاةَ زِيَادَةً لِي فِي كُلِّ خَيْرٍ, وَاجْعَلْ اَلْمَوْتَ رَاحَةً لِي مِنْ كُلِّ شَرٍّ | O Allah! Set right for me my religion, which is the safeguard of my affairs. And set right for me the affairs of the world wherein is my living. Decree the Hereafter to be good for me. And make this life, for me, (a source) of abundance for every good and make my death (a source) of comfort to me and protection against every evil.” (Related by Muslim 202) |
رَبَّنَا لا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذ هَدَيتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِن لَدُنكَ رَحمَةً إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الوَهَّابُ | Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower. (Quran 3:8) |
رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذنَا إِن نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأنَا رَبَّنَا وَلا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبلِنَا رَبَّنَا وَلا تُحَمِّلنَا مَا لا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ وَاعفُ عَنَّا وَاغفِرْ لَنَا وَارحَمْنَا أَنتَ مَولاَنَا فَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى القَومِ الكَافِرِينَ | Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.”(Quran 2: 286) |
رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا | Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous (25:74) |
رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ | Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers. (Quran 7:23) |
رَبَّنَا اغْفِر لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَإِسرَافَنَا فِي أَمرِنَا وَثَبِّت أَقدَامَنَا وَانصُرنَا عَلَى القَومِ الكَافِرِينَ | Our Lord, forgive us our sins and the excess [committed] in our affairs and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people. (Quran 3:147) |
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا مِنْ لَدُنكَ رَحْمَةً وَهَيِّئْ لَنَا مِنْ أَمْرِنَا رَشَدًا | “Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance. (Quran 18:10) |
رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخوَانِنَا الَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِالإِيمَانِ وَلا تَجْعَلْ فِي قُلُوبِنَا غِلًّا لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ | “Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts [any] resentment toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful. (59:10) |
اللهمَّ آتِ نَفْسِي تَقْوَاهَا وَزَكِّهَا أنْتَ خَيرُ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا، أنتَ وَلِيٌّهَا وَمَوْلاهَا، اللهُمَّ إنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ لا يَنْفَعُ، وَمِنْ قَلْبٍ لاَ يَخْشَعُ، ومِنْ نَفْسٍ, لا تَشْبَعُ، وَمِنْ دَعْوَةِ لا يُسْتَجَابُ لهَا | O Allah! Grant me the sense of piety and purify my soul as You are the Best to purify it. You are its Guardian and its Protecting Friend. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the knowledge which is not beneficial, and from a heart which does not fear (You), and from desire which is not satisfied, and from prayer which is not answered (Hadith, Muslim) |
رَبَّنَا اصْرِفْ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَ إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَامًا، إِنَّهَا سَاءَتْ مُسْتَقَرًّا وَمُقَامًا | Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is ever adhering; (Quran 25:65) |
اَللَّهُمَّ انْفَعْنِي بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنِي, وَعَلِّمْنِي مَا يَنْفَعُنِي, وَارْزُقْنِي عِلْمًا يَنْفَعُنِي | O Allah! Grant me benefit in what you have taught me, and teach me useful knowledge and provide me with knowledge that will benefit me (Hadith Nasai) |
اللهُمَّ إنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ جَهْدِ الْبَلَاءِ، وَدَرَكِ الشَّقَاءِ، وَسُوءِ الْقَضَاءِ، وَشَمَاتَةِ الْأَعْدَاءِ | Oh Allah, I seek refuge with You from the difficulties of severe calamities, from having an evil end and a bad fate and from the malicious joy of enemies.” (Hadith Bukhari) |
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْجُبْنِ وَالْبُخْلِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ غَلَبَةِ الدَّيْنِ وَقَهْرِ الرِّجَالِ | O Allah, I seek refuge in You from care and grief, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and slackness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and niggardliness, and I seek in You from being overcome by debt and being put in subjection by men.”(Hadith Tirmudi) |
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مُوجِبَاتِ رَحْمَتِكَ وَعَزَائِمَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ وَالْغَنِيمَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ بِرٍّ وَالسَّلاَمَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ إِثْمٍ أَسْأَلُكَ أَلاَّ تَدَعَ لِي ذَنْبًا إِلاَّ غَفَرْتَهُ وَلاَ هَمًّا إِلاَّ فَرَّجْتَهُ وَلاَ حَاجَةً هِيَ لَكَ رِضًا إِلاَّ قَضَيْتَهَا لِي | O Allah, I ask You for the means of Your mercy and forgiveness, the benefit of every good deed and safety from all sins. I ask You not to leave any sin of mine but You forgive it, or any distress but You relieve it, or any need that is pleasing to You but You meet it (Hadith Ibn Maja) |
اللهُمَّ إنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الهُدَى، والتُّقَى، والعَفَافَ، وَالغِنَى | O Allah! I beseech You for guidance, piety, chastity and contentment. (Hadith Muslim) |
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ زَوَالِ نِعْمَتِكَ، وَتَحَوُّلِ عَافِيَتِكَ، وَفَجْأَةِ نِقْمَتِكَ، وَجَمِيعِ سَخَطِكَ | O Allah! I seek refuge in you from the withholding of your favor, the decline of the good health you have given, the suddenness of your vengeance and from all forms of your wrath (Hadith Muslim) |
اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أعُوذُ بِرِضَاكَ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ، وبمُعَافَاتِكَ مِنْ عُقُوبَتِكَ، وَبِكَ مِنْكَ لَا أُحْصِي ثَنَاءً عَلَيْكَ، أَنْتَ كَمَا أَثْنَيْتَ عَلىَ نَفْسِكَ | O Allah! I seek protection against Your Wrath in Your Pleasure. I seek protection in Your Pardon against Your chastisement, I am not capable of enumerating praise of You. You are as You have lauded Yourself (Hadith Muslim) |
رَبِّي اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ رَبِّي ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيراً | Oh my Lord, forgive me and my mother and father. Oh my Lord, have mercy on them as they brought me up in (my) childhood. |
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدٌّنيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ | Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”(Quran 2:201) |
رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ | Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing (Quran 2:127) |
وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَا إِنَّكَ أَنتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ | And accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful. (Quran 2: 128) |
آمِين برَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِين وَصَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالَى وَسَلّمَ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا محَمّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ العِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُون، وَسَلامٌ عَلَى المُرْسَلِين وَالحَمْدُ للهِ رَبِّ العَالَمِين. | Oh Allah, answer my Dua, Oh the Most Merciful of all. Let Allah send His Salaat and Salaam on our leader Muhammadﷺ and his family. Purity is to your Lord, the Lord of Honour, from all what they accuse, And peace is upon the Noble Messengers, All the praises are to Allah, the lord of the whole world. |
