After-noon activities (أَنْشِطَةُ مَا بَعْدَ الظُّهْرِ)

Short daytime sleep (nap) has many health benefits. It relaxes and eliminates tension. It boosts memory capacity and increases concentration. A study has revealed that it helps the body run smoothly and gain energy and vitality. Here the author’s suggestion is to sleep after the study before praying Dhuhr prayer.

After eating one can choose between studying and worshipping. Reading the Kitab ‘Adhkar’ of Imam Nawawi is also recommended. Adhkar is one of the masterpieces of Imam Nawawi, a collection of hadith about various types of Dhikr recited on different occasions.

Al-Hasan al-Basri passed by a group of people in the marketplace in the middle of the day, and heard the racket they were making. He said, “Do these people take a nap?” It was said to him, “No.” He said, “I think their nights must be bad.”
