Sujood Tilawa (سجود التلاَوَة)
There are fourteen verses in Quran known as Verses of Sajda. Making Sujood when reading or hearing those verses is called Sujood Tilawa. The word Tilawa means ‘the recitation’.
It is Sunnah for:

  1. Reader in Salaat or outside Salaat.
  2. Hearer (سَامِع) and listener (مسْتَمِع) outside Salaat.
    Conditions (Shuroot) of Sujood Tilawa
  3. Conditions of Salaat from 1 to 5. Commencement of time here means the reading whole verse.
  4. Reading or hearing the full verse.
  5. Reading should not be in Janaza prayer.
  6. Reading on purpose. (No Sujood for listening into the cassette).
  7. Reader should be one and in one time. If two persons shared a verse of Tilawa, then there is no Sujood. Also, if one read a part of the verse and after a long gap continued the recitation, there is no Sujood.
  8. Having no long time between the end of the verse and Sujood.
Sujood outside Salaat has following Furood
  9. Niyyat.
  10. Takbeeratul Ihram.
  11. One Sujood same as Sujood of Salaat.
  12. Salaam same as salaam of Salaat.
Only Sujood is required inside Salaat.
    Sunan of Sujood Tilawa
  13. Pronouncing Niyyat.
  14. Raising the hand towards the shoulder(مَنْكِب) while saying Takbeeratul Ihram.
  15. Sitting for salaam.
  16. Saying the following:
My face has prostrated to the One Who created it and formed it, and brought forth its hearing and sight. Blessed be Allah the best of Creators.
    Some notes:
  17. In Salaat in which reciting should be in low voice(السرية), Sunnah for Imam is to delay Sujood Tilawa to the end of Salaat.
  18. Ma’moom does Sujood only for Imam’s reading.
  19. Reading verses of Sujood in Salaat with the purpose of doing Sujood is Haraam.
  20. Imam who fears the disruption of Ma’mooms by Sujood Tilawa can do Sujood after Salaat
    Sujood Shukr (سُجُود الشُّكْر)
Shukr means the thankfulness. Sujood Shukr is to make Sujood as mentioned in Sujood Tilawa for the blessings being granted or for the trial being lifted. This is Sunnah. One can also perform Sujood for seeing an evil person or a sick. He can show his Sujood to evil person because it may cause him turn away from the evil and join the good people. But Sujood for seeing sick person should not be in his presence because it will harm the sick.
