Nullifiers (مُبْطِلاَت) of Wudu and Tayammum
Things that nullify Wudu:
- Exiting (خُرُوج) anything from either the front (القُبُل) or the rear (الدُّبُر) private parts i.e. urethra and anus. This includes the wind or anything else. Only semen (مَنِيّ) is an exception.
- Loss of intellect (العَقْل) through sleep, madness, drunkenness etc. But the sleep while firmly seated on the ground (seat) is excepted.
- Touching the private organs of a person with the palm (بَطْن الكَفّ/ inner surface of the hand).
- Skin to skin contact (تَلاَقِي) between non-Mahram (غير المَحْرَم) adult male and female.
Notes:
• Exiting and Skin to skin contact doesn’t’ break the Wudu of Mayyit (the deceased).
• Touching the private organs of the small children also breaks the Wudu.
• Touching the hair, teeth or nail of the non-Mahram doesn’t break Wudu.
• If one doubted after completing Wudu whether he missed any Fard or not, it doesn’t affect his Wudu: i.e. his Wudu is valid.
• If one is sure that he made Wudu but doubted whether Wudu was nullified by doing any above-mentioned four nullifiers, then his doubt doesn’t affect Wudu: i.e. His Wudu is valid.
• If one is sure that he made one of the nullifiers but doubted whether he made Wudu after that or not, then his doubt doesn’t have any value, ie. he should perform Wudu.
Things that nullify Tayammum - Hadath (الحَدَث) – (all the Nullifiers mentioned in Wudu apply here as well).
